We are a family run business with 15 years of blacksmithing & metalwork experience, working from a 200 year old forge to produce hand-made bespoke ironwork projects. We also engage in restoration and conservation work within the heritage sector.
Fred Suffield,
Ba(Hons) Artist Blacksmithing, graduated from Hereford College of Arts in 2012 specialising in contemporary sculpture. Following this Fred traveled England working alongside some of the UK's top master blacksmiths. Traditionally known as a Journeyman during this period, Fred was part of the
National Heritage Ironwork Group's bursary scheme, sponsored by the National Heritage Lottery Fund. With the journeymanship completed in 2013, Fred attained the Heritage Skills Blacksmithing Award, during which time he spent time conserving the prestigious Tijou Screens, c. 1700 ironwork at Hampton Court Palace and the conservation of the 1918 Mark V Tank on display at Imperial War Museum London.
His final piece of work during the Journeymanship, a traditionally designed Jardiniere, which was hand forged from wrought iron was highly commended by the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths at the Great Yorkshire Show 2014 & on display at Hampton Court Palace.
Running a small workshop in the village of Cotesbach, 'Fred Suffield Ironwork' produced bespoke products and commissions for private clients, during which time he trained a number of apprentices and ran over 200 blacksmith experience days. After 4 years in Leicestershire, Fred moved to Lincolnshire and established Anwick Forge Ltd in 2017.
Whilst operating as Anwick Forge Ltd we have worked on a number of large projects in both the heritage and contemporary design sectors. From the Irish Embassy in Westminster and N.H.S. hospitals across London, up through the Midlands, East Anglia and into Yorkshire. We produce ironwork for renowned interior designers which is sold around the globe. We value local work and aim to keep the friendly village smithy tradition alive & the ancient hearth burning.
Currently the Membership Secretary for the British Artist Blacksmith Association and a member of the Heritage Craft Association.
Established in 2017, carrying on 200+ year of heritage craftsmanship at Anwick Forge.
